Heavy cargo by road from Mogadishu to Baledogle
How we delivered leased heavy equipment and specialized vehicles by road from Mogadishu to Baledogle for SKA, with route planning and security.

Between 2023 and 2024 we supplied and delivered specialized vehicles and heavy equipment by road from Mogadishu to Baledogle for SKA. The equipment supported remote operations, and the route passed through areas that carry significant risk. The project combined equipment leasing with road transport, route planning and security coordination.
The challenge
SKA needed specialized vehicles and heavy equipment delivered from Mogadishu to Baledogle to support remote operations. The route carries significant risk, so every movement had to be planned to keep the equipment, the drivers and the schedule safe. The equipment also had to arrive when the client's program needed it and remain available for as long as the work required.
Our approach
We supplied the assets ourselves and planned the routes to reduce exposure and transit time. Security was coordinated for every convoy. Lease terms were aligned to the client's program, so equipment arrived when needed and stayed for as long as the work required.
The project drew on four parts of our service:
- Road transport
- Equipment leasing
- Route planning
- Security coordination
Supplying the equipment and moving it under one contract removed a common gap. When one company leases the equipment and another moves it, delays at the handover between them are easy to create and hard to resolve. Here, the same team was responsible for the assets, the route and the delivery.
The outcome
The leased equipment was delivered safely and on time to a remote site, with flexible terms that matched the client's program. SKA received:
- Leased equipment delivered safely to a remote site
- Route plans that reduced risk and transit time
- Flexible terms matched to the program
Lessons for heavy road movements
Several points from this work apply to any heavy movement on high-risk roads in Somalia. Route planning comes first: the aim is to reduce the time a convoy spends exposed, which means choosing the route carefully and avoiding unnecessary stops. Security is part of the movement plan, coordinated for every convoy rather than arranged case by case. Heavy loads need the right trailers and secure lashing for the road conditions, and their dimensions and weights should be confirmed before the route is fixed. For any movement of this kind, the client should also know when each convoy departs and when the equipment arrives on site.
Flexibility in the commercial terms matters as much as the transport plan. Remote programs change, and equipment that has made a difficult journey should not have to leave before the work is finished. Aligning the lease to the program keeps it on site for as long as it is needed.
We move containers, plant, water and fuel by road across Somalia, with every movement planned for route, load and security, and we lease plant and vehicles through our asset management and fleet service. If you need heavy equipment delivered to a remote site, our logistics team can help you plan it.
